Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA) Process

The 407 East Environmental Assessment (EA) study has formally triggered the Federal EA process.  The scope of the 407 East EA has been identified as the watercourse crossings that will potentially require approval under the Navigable Waters Protection Act, the Fisheries Act, and the portion of the transportation corridor that will be constructed on federal land.

The project as scoped, will be undertaken as a Screening under the CEAA process.  Transport Canada (TC) and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) are the Responsible Authorities (RA's). Environment Canada (EC), Health Canada (HC), and Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) will be participating as federal authorities (FA’s), providing expert advice / guidance on matters related to their areas of expertise.  The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAAgency) will be providing assistance in its role as the federal environmental assessment coordinator.

The 407 East EA study is listed on the CEAA Registry and the Notice of Commencement can be found at http://www.ceaa.gc.ca.

More information on the CEAA process can be found on the EA Legislation page of this website.
